Letter to... Him.

Dear Mason,

This summer may have been just about the best summer of my life. At least, until it became the worst. See, all that fun stuff we did made me so happy. You were the first guy to ever, EVER tell me I was pretty. And I liked you more than I've ever liked any other guy. Honestly, I still do. Which sucks. Because you are a real dick.

It's funny-- I keep thinking about the various things that I could have done differently and would that have changed anything and would things be better and would you have not abandoned me at some random friend's house?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You probably don't know about Landon boys, being a guy and all. But you ditched me at the house of a Landon boy, and Landon boys are known for taking advantage of girls. Then, on top of that, when I called and asked if you were trying to set us up, you said "No, but it would be cool if you guys dated." I'm not quite sure what was running through your mind then, but I really wish I knew. I really wish I knew what made you think that was an ok thing to tell a girl who likes you as much as I pretty clearly did-- do.

And then, a step beyond that, you told me over the phone that you didn't want to lose me as a friend.

You told me over facebook that I had apparently been telling the guy dirty jokes.

You acted like it was my fault that a random guy I had never met before asked out of the blue if I wanted to make-out with him.

And yet I still like you. I still like you, when you're one of the biggest bastards I know. Wanna know the best part? If, for some bizarre reason, you were to realize what a big mistake you made, turn around, and ask me out, I would probably just bitch slap you and run the other way, calling you all the dirtiest names in the book.

So really, this letter is my thanks.

Thanks for building up my confidence to new limits just so you could knock it down lower than ever before. Thank you for bringing back a habit I thought was long gone. You know I hadn't cried myself to sleep in a little over a year, but now I can't fall asleep at all without having a good cry first. Thank you for introducing me to one of the most adorable 4 year olds ever just so you could prevent me from ever seeing her again.

Thank you for making me miserable.

I really appreciate the favor.

Love,
Rebecca
